MID IB SUMMER COURSE: JULY 7 - 23, 2012
The Mid IB Summer Course is a course designed for students who have completed their first IB Diploma year.
The course is composed of 4 study units - one subject per unit. You may choose up to 4 subjects during this course. Each unit consists of 15 hours of tutorials, plus two hours of supervised private study spread over three days. Our Mid IB Summer Course is an efficient and effective way of ensuring you get your final year off to a good start.
Students have a FREE DAY between each unit when they may join one of our many activities or just meet up with friends in the city.

We will provide you with a rigorous and demanding course in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Small, motivated groups led by experienced IB teachers will help you to:
- REVIEW FIRST YEAR SUBJECT MATTER THOROUGHLY
- DEEPEN YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE MORE DIFFICULT CONCEPTS
- LEARN HOW TO MAXIMISE YOUR COURSE WORK/INTERNAL ASSESSMENT SCORES
- PRACTICE AND IMPROVE YOUR EXAMINATION TECHNIQUE
- GET A HEAD START ON YOUR FINAL YEAR!
This course also offers the following optional extra sessions, which you can book in addition to your main subjects:
1. Theory of Knowledge – TOK (3 hours)
To obtain the Full IB Diploma you must fulfil the requirements for the TOK and Extended Essay components. Additionally the extra points you score from TOK and Extended Essay could well be critical in securing a place at the university of your choice. You may already have begun work on your TOK essay and presentation, or may still be wondering which title to choose. Either way, in this 3 hour session our TOK tutors will be able to assist you, so that you can achieve the maximum possible grade for your work
2. Extended Essay (one-on-one; up to 2 hours)
To obtain the Full IB Diploma you must fulfil the requirements for the Extended Essay and TOK components. Additionally the extra points you score from Extended Essay and TOK could well be critical in securing a place at the university of your choice. You have probably already begun work on your Extended Essay, but may wish to discuss the content with a subject specific tutor, or need some advice on how to structure it in a way that will maximise your score. In this session our Extended Essay tutors will be able to assist you, so that you can achieve the maximum possible grade for your work.
3. Advice on
Choosing the right course and university for you is not an easy decision to make. Our counsellors have many years experience in helping students find the best place for them. On a one-to one basis our counsellors will help you find the course that best suits your abilities and interests.
4. Assistance with writing your Personal Statement for your University Application (3 hours, including individual consultations)

5. Graphics Calculator and Computing Skills for Math Internal Assessment (3 hours)
We have introduced this course, as we have found that many students are unaware of what their calculators can actually do for them, and our maths tutors are constantly telling us that many students have relatively poor calculator skills. Effective use of your calculator will save you valuable time on homework assignments, Internal Assessments, and most importantly on your examination.
6. SAT Preparation in Mathematics and English Language & Critical
SAT examinations are necessary for students applying to universities in the U.S. Being well prepared for them can make a big difference to your score. This course is for students who are planning to take SATs, or who have taken them and would like to improve their score.
