Course Description

The Mid IB Summer Revision Course is designed for students, who are currently in their first IB Diploma year and are to commence their second year after the summer. It is an efficient and thorough way of ensuring you get your second IB Diploma year off to a very good start. It will allow you to reinforce what you have already learned and provide you with a sound base on which to build in your final year.

What to expect:

  • You may choose 2 – 4 IB subjects
  • Each subject will be reviewed thoroughly over 3 days
  • 18 hours of intensive study, including 3 hours of reviewed homework per subject
  • Small class size (usually 5-8 students)
  • Highly experienced & inspiring IB faculty, most of who are IB examiners

Subjects and Classes

  • The MID IB – Revision Programme is composed of 4 study units and will study one IB subject per unit. You may choose 2 – 4 IB subjects during this course.
  • Each unit consists of 18 hours of tutorials and homework, spread over three days. Our Mid IB Summer Course is an efficient and effective way of ensuring you get your final year off to a good start.
  • Students have 1-2 FREE DAYS between each unit when they may join one of our many free time activities or just meet up with friends in the city.
  • We will provide you with a rigorous and demanding course in a friendly and highly personalized atmosphere.
  • Small, motivated groups will be led by highly experienced IB Diploma teachers (10-30 years each) most of who are IBO examiners.
  • personal daily schedule will be emailed to you, as soon as we have processed your registration.

We offer a wide range of optional short courses to our MID – IB students prior and during our IB Summer School.

 

Magnificent 5-day Alpine CAS Adventure:

Duration: 5 days
Setting: Creativity, Activity, Service – group
Cost: 1350 €
 (5 nights incl. entire programme and half board, 24/7 care)
Date: July 11th-16th (Tuesday-Sunday)

CAS CERTIFICATE: each student will receive a certificate with exact dates, hours and description of the accomplished programme and CAS duties.

Are you interested in being inspired by your CAS programme and/or get inspiration for your CAS programme in a unique traditional alpine setting? Then come and attend our unique 5-day CAS trip to beautiful Mariazell in the Ötscher region, only 1.5 hrs away from our Vienna Camp. If you also wish to have this experience recognised for CAS hours then check back with your CAS Coordinator at your IB school prior to joining us!

Among immersion into old Austrian culture & traditions of a mountain village, you will volunteer in a village kindergarten, help waiting in a traditional innexperience life on a farm, breathtaking mountain hikes and spend a night in a typical ‘Schutzhaus’ near the Ötscher peak, whilst discovering the secrets of this nature park with our nature guide.

You will also help clean up this magnificent national park… And, yes, you will be experiencing some unique evenings in one of Austria’s very authentic spots…

CAS should be fun and also challenging – it should allow students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development. It should encourage learning through experience! This is why our Alpine CAS trip is a perfect fit for Pre IB- and Mid IB students!

  • Pre-IB students will be introduced to IB CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) and focus on their chosen CAS activities and duties.
  • Mid-IB students will focus on their various CAS duties, as each day’s experiences will include activities that allow them to address ALL the essential learning outcomes required of the program.

Time for reflection is built in for all, with a focus on the 21st century skills such as collaboration, problem solving, decision-making, self-management as well as “giving back”.

Life after School – A Kickstart!

Duration: 3 hours
Setting: Small Group
Cost: 250 €

Dates: July 18th (online via Zoom) or July 27th (on-ground)
“We believe in your ability to lifescape your own future!”
“Life after School – A Kickstart!” is an exciting workshop brought in for you by IBWISE because it is designed specifically for older teens and young adults to get a roadmap for life after school. Focusing on your current perceptions about what “creating” your future life means to you and using a variety of activities, you will get a stronger sense of yourself, your aspirations, and how you can proactively design your path ahead. 
For this workshop we will use elements of ‘YrGaMe’, a new lifescaping tool, to guide and empower you as individuals. You will gain insights about how to orient yourself, recognise and use opportunities, plan and manage transitions, and grow your independence. “Life After School – A Kickstart!” is facilitated by Chris Greulich.  For those who want further individual guidance/’one-to-one’ sessions are welcome to do so. Entrepreneurial Skills:

Duration: 2.5 hours
Setting: Small Group
Cost: 250 €

This course will introduce you to the skills necessary for entrepreneurial success, using case studies as well as analysis of the current and future challenges likely to be encountered in the rapidly changing global economy. It will explore the importance of risk taking, speculation and monitoring indicators, together with the leadership qualities necessary to sustain and develop entrepreneurial innovations. Contemporary issues such as gender bias, latent prejudice and empowerment will be discussed together with an overview of strategies designed to promote diversification.

Theory of Knowledge:

Duration: 2 hours
Setting: Small Group
Cost: 200 €

TOK is a compulsory part of the IB Diploma. This course will help you learn to discuss philosophical, moral and ethical questions. The TOK assessment criteria and their application will be explained. Students will receive a total of 2 hours guidance in and out of class, to support their TOK course work and to help them maximize their overall TOK grade.

Extended Essay Advice:

Duration: 2 hours
Setting: One-to-One
Cost: 300 €

Our IB subject specialists will assist and consult you on an individual basis to make the most out of your essay. The sessions are usually spread over a couple of days. This will allow you to work on your essay between sessions. Please note, that this support does not replace the supervision that you receive at school.

Extended Essay Writing Retreat:

Duration: 4 days

This retreat offers you the perfect space and setting to concentrate on writing your Extended Essay and to get this essay in great shape before the school year resumes. We will offer you the necessary structural support from our IB coaches plus 30-minute daily IBO-conform advice from one of our highly experienced IB specialists in your required field of study. This will ensure you get your Extended Essay draft completed or close to completed. Our IB subject specialist will assist you for a total of 2 hrs, spread over 4 days. Our IB coaches will ensure you have everything you need between 9am and 3:30pm to stay motivated and focused to ensure you will work productively on your essay during this 4-day retreat.

Internal Assessment Advice:

Duration: 1 hour
Setting: One-to-One
Subjects offered: all subjects
Cost: 150 € 

Internal Assessment is an important component in many IB subjects and contributes strongly to your final IB grade. This session offers you extra support in any of the mentioned subjects. You can choose as many subjects and hours as you wish in this category. Our IB subject specialists will assist you to improve your techniques and show you how best to apply the IA criteria in your work so that you can maximize your points in given fields of study.

Academic Writing:

Duration: 4 hours
Setting: Small Group
Cost: 300 €

Academic writing is an important part of the IB curriculum, whether in preparation of the extended essay, the TOK essay, language A written assignments or any internal assessment. This lesson will guide students on research questions, essay structure, content and academic style of writing, citation, as well as punctuation. It will help them approach future assignments in a competent scientific manner. This and more is the focus of this highly recommendable 4-hour workshop.

Time Management & Study Skills:

Duration: 2 hours

Time management as well as ‘how to study’ effectively are crucial for success at IBDP level and beyond. Our instructor will help you acquire some good insight and provide you with tools to allow you establish important skills and routines in this area of learning.

Language A – Essay Writing Skills:

Duration: 3 hours
Setting: Small Group
Cost: 250 €

Language A – Essay Writing Skills is an essential know-how to do well in any Language A written exam, no matter the language. This 3-hour course is hence extremely helpful for all Language A students, also those with mother tongues other than English (e.g. German, Arabic, Dutch, Russian, etc). This session will help solidify important ‘musts’ of literary essay writing. Students will further receive important insights on what is crucial when writing a strong IB ‘Language A’ essay.

Conquering the Mathematics Exploration:

Duration: 2.5 hours
Setting: Small Group
Cost: 250 €

This mini course has several foci all taken together they should ease the way for you to write a strong mathematics HL or SL Internal Assessment.

At the end of this course:

  • You will have a solid understanding of the assessment criteria for the new syllabus.
  • You will understand how to write a good, complete, and interesting Exploration.
  • You will have chosen an appropriate topic to explore.
  • You will have written a good introduction with an aim, rationale, and background information.
  • You will have gained additional knowledge of the technology necessary to a good presentation.

If you have already started your IA, the advice you get in this course will be invaluable to scoring well.  It is important that you follow through with the advice given to you so by the time you leave IBWISE, you will have made a great start to completing your Exploration. The course will be taught by two IB Senior Examiners.

Graphics Calculator Skills:

Duration: 2 hours
Setting: Small Group
Cost: 200 €

In this class you will learn how to use your graphics calculator effectively. This will not only help you to produce excellent homework assignments, and math internal assessments but most importantly save valuable time on your examinations, as you will be able to work faster and check complex calculations.

University Choice & Careers Advice:

Duration: 1 hour

Choosing the right course and university is not an easy decision to make. On an individual basis our counselors will advise you on U.K., U.S. and Central Europe universities and help you find the course and university that best suits your interests and abilities.

Intensive University Admissions Preparation:

Duration: 3 hours
Setting: Small Group – offered ONLINE only
Cost: 250 €

Although the main goal is to prepare students on how to build and enhance their candidacy for entry into a more selective university in the UK, Central Europe, Canada and the U.S., including intro to UCAS (for U.K. candidates) and Common App (for U.S. and Canada candidates), this training also teaches applicants the practical intelligence, skills and attitudes needed to navigate and succeed when applying at university level. The course is lead by one of our superb university specialists.

Personal Statement Support:

Duration: 3 hours
Setting: Small Group and ‘one-to-one’ – offered ONLINE only
Cost: 250 €

Writing a well-balanced personal statement is critical in obtaining an interview at a UK university. Our counselors will help you tailor your statement to the particular courses you are interested in. The sessions will include ‘one-on-one’ guidance with your counselor, as well as a personal follow-up to review your refined essay.

Oxbridge Admissions Overview:

Duration: 1.5 hours
Setting: Small Group – offered ONLINE only
Cost: 200 €

This is a highly specific course introducing students to the Oxford/Cambridge application procedure, and is run by our superb U.K. oxbridge university specialist. This session is also suitable for students applying to similar highly competitive universities and programmes and is highly recommendable.

Memory Boost!

Duration: 1.5 hours
Setting: Small Group
Cost: 180 €

This exciting workshop will offer students tools and techniques to enhance their memorising ability. In a fun way they will be experiencing how their brain and memory works and how they can boost it. Students will also become more aware of their own individual strengths and weaknesses and offered tricks to tackle challenging situations when large amount of detail need be memorised and replicated.

Stress Management:

Duration: 1 hour
Setting: One-to-One
Cost: 180 €

More and more students are overwhelmed with the many requirements the IB, upcoming university admission procedures, etc bring with them. Their diverse reactions (e.g. sleeplessness, worries, exam anxiety, headaches, tummy aches) can be symptoms of stress and not knowing how to deal with all what is going on. This consultation will be held in a  supportive ‘one-to-one’ manner offering personalized strategies & tips.

Private Tuition:

Duration: 1 hour
Setting: One-to-One
Cost: 150 €

Private tuition is sometimes requested by students to get the opportunity of focusing on very individual questions with one of our IB specialists. We will try to facilitate such ‘one-to-one’ sessions where possible.

 

Travel Information

GETTING TO AND FROM VIENNA –Vienna has low price flight connections with all the major European cities, as well as excellent road and rail links. Whichever mode of transport you decide to use, you will be met at your arrival point in the city, and delivered safely to your accommodation. Usually transfer times are no more than 45 minutes.

INSURANCE
Students MUST have full medical insurance – proof of which will be required at the beginning of the course. Holiday insurance to cover against loss of personal items is a sensible precaution. Insurance against late cancellation due to illness etc. should also allow you to claim for a refund of course fees, if necessary.

VISAS
Having the relevant travel documents is important. You can visit the website at https://www.bmeia.gv.at to obtain details of visa requirements. EU citizens do not require a visa.

COVID – PRECAUTIONS ON CAMPUS (this section will be updated regularly)

  1. To ensure maximum safety during our camp, all students who join us on camp will need to be fully vaccinated and bring along their proof of vaccination as well as a negative covid test.
  2. All students will be monitored carefully (eg. regular temperature checks) while with us in Vienna and may also be expected to test when needed while with us.
  3. Social distancing and hygiene (regular washing and disinfecting of hands) plus the wearing of face masks while indoors will likely still be the golden standard in Austria next summer. Students are therefore asked to bring their personal supplies along to our camp.
  4. Rooms and en-suite bathrooms will be cleaned and disinfected by our cleaning staff.
  5. Our ask: we need all students’ support to be safe while together and appreciate your all commitment!

Accommodation

Per IB subject course 4 nights accommodation in Vienna are required. Our accommodation fees include our exceptional 24/7 care, en-suite facilities, our yummy breakfast buffet and free time activities on our beautiful campus.

(2) Shared room with en-suite facilities (2 or 3 students of one gender per room): 85€ per night

Pick-up & Drop-off 

We are happy to offer you pick-up and drop-off at your point of destination and departure. Cost for this service: 50€
